ISSA Finds a Home for Its Global Media Archive with PhotoShelter

The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association partners with PhotoShelter to create an accessible global archive and manage its visual legacy.

Headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) is an independent organization representing 57 member countries and the governing body behind the Islamic Solidarity Games.

With a footprint that spans continents, ISSA’s work goes far beyond a single event. The organization is dedicated to advancing sports development through international partnerships and initiatives.

“At its core, ISSA’s mission is to strengthen cooperation and promote sporting excellence by building a sports movement that unites athletes, communities, and nations through shared values and the power of sport.” To fulfill this mission, ISSA needed a reliable way to share its media with a diverse network of member nations.

The challenge: Building an accessible archive

With 57 member countries and decades of history, ISSA faced a clear challenge: accessibility. Previously, the team relied on Google Drive to store and share assets, which made it difficult to maintain a searchable, professional archive.

The goal was to move away from fragmented storage and “build a centralized and accessible archive for photography and media assets… making them easier to access and share across our network.”

Finding a long-term solution with PhotoShelter

The path to PhotoShelter began during the Riyadh 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games. Through a partnership with the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), ISSA saw the platform in action.

Some of the Games’ assets were hosted on the platform, giving ISSA the opportunity to experience firsthand how easy it was to access, organize, and distribute content to member countries during a major international event. That experience played an important role in the decision to move forward with PhotoShelter as a long-term digital asset management solution.

“As ISSA continues to grow its global presence, investing in effective and accessible digital tools has become increasingly important. We are excited to partner with PhotoShelter to enhance the way we manage, distribute, and preserve media assets for our 57 member countries, their athletes, and the wider ISSA community.”

Now, ISSA will have a single, searchable home for its media and the tools to share it globally.

“Sports always bring people together, and it’s great to partner with an organization whose mission brings that to life on the world stage,” said PhotoShelter CMO Christina Kyriazi. “We look forward to working with the team at ISSA as they make their growing archive more accessible to athletes and partners.”
