PhotoShelter’s Commitment to Accessibility
PhotoShelter’s Lumen UI is built for accessibility and mobile use, designed to conform with the latest WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.

We designed our Lumen UI to be fully accessible and mobile-friendly, ensuring it meets rigorous accessibility and compliance standards.
Why accessibility matters now
Starting in April 2026, state and local governments and their vendors must comply with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards. By building for the newer 2.2 AA standards, PhotoShelter’s Lumen UI exceeds this requirement, ensuring compliance with the latest guidelines.
How we ensure our platform stays inclusive
Our product team considers accessibility in their current product development process. Here’s how:
- It’s defined in feature requirements and included in acceptance criteria before work begins
- Designs must meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards before moving into development
- Our user interface is built on Material UI v5 to support accessible, standards-aligned components
- Code cannot be released without passing AXE accessibility tests
- Accessibility testing is part of our standard review process, and issues are reviewed and prioritized every two weeks to ensure steady progress and accountability
Third-party validation and expert partnership
We’ve partnered with UsableNet, industry leaders with 25 years of experience in digital inclusion. They provide us with:
- Regular WCAG 2.2 AA audits
- Testing by members of the disability community
- UsableNet AQA monitoring
- Specialized accessibility training
This partnership ensures our work is validated by independent experts and continuously strengthened.
Are you prepared? Questions to ask your DAM provider
If you’re evaluating a digital asset management (DAM) provider, use these questions to ensure they can help you stay compliant:
- Do you conform to WCAG 2.2 AA or just the 2.1 minimum? This ensures they are future-proofed against the 2026 mandates. If your DAM doesn’t meet the 2.1 minimum by April 2026, you won’t meet compliance standards.
- How is accessibility tested throughout the product development process? DAM systems must perform regular manual accessibility testing in order to conform with WCAG standards. A mix of automated testing, manual testing, and community feedback is the gold standard.
- How often is your accessibility roadmap updated? You want a partner who treats this as a continuous process, not a one-time project.
- How does your mobile experience hold up when resizing the interface? Your DAM must be functional for users who rely on reflow or resize requirements, such as zooming in on the UI up to 400% without losing features.
- Can you provide a VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template)? This is a standard document that proves their compliance level.
