Designers and web managers are likely to publish the content that’s the most readily available, not the most valuable for your brand. That means high-ROI assets are left unused because your team doesn’t know they exist or they’re too hard to find.
That’s why PhotoShelter teamed up with WordPress to put your freshest content at your team’s fingertips.
About PhotoShelter’s WordPress Integration
When you connect PhotoShelter and WordPress, you can cut out steps in your workflow and publish your brand’s best visual assets on your website effortlessly.
- Pull files from your PhotoShelter library straight into WordPress.
- Browse, search, and import files from PhotoShelter, without leaving the back end of your website.
- No more downloading the file from PhotoShelter and uploading it to WordPress. Bring your brand’s best assets forward, right into the WordPress app.
How the WordPress DAM integration works
PhotoShelter brings your visual library into the WordPress editor, so you find the asset you need without leaving WordPress.

Browse or search your PhotoShelter library, select the file you want to use, and import it directly into WordPress. There’s no need to download the asset to your computer first and then upload it again.

Your PhotoShelter library remains the place where your team organizes and manages its visual content. WordPress becomes another place to put that content to use.
What transfers with your assets
When you import an image from PhotoShelter into the WordPress Media Library, it imports its metadata. You can edit that information in WordPress without changing the original metadata stored in PhotoShelter. You can also choose the image size you want to import and add alt text or a caption for the page or post where it will appear.

PhotoShelter also keeps different versions of the same image together in your library and lets your team choose which version is active. If you activate a new version in PhotoShelter, it won’t automatically replace an image already imported into WordPress. You’ll need to import the version you want to publish.
That separation gives your team control over what appears on your website while keeping the original asset and its information intact in PhotoShelter.
Benefits of a DAM WordPress Integration for your team
Give web teams more independence. Designers and web managers get the content they need without depending on someone else to find and send files for every update.
Get more value from the content you already own. Photography and other visual assets represent an investment. Making that content available at the point of publishing creates more opportunities to use it across your website.
Support a growing website without creating another content library. As teams publish more pages and campaigns, PhotoShelter remains the central place to manage visual assets, instead of turning WordPress into another disconnected archive.
Setup and requirements
To use the integration, install and activate the PhotoShelter plugin from the WordPress Plugin Directory. Then connect it to your PhotoShelter for Brands account using your organization’s Portal URL and sign in with your PhotoShelter credentials.
Before getting started:
- Your organization needs an active PhotoShelter for Brands account.
- Your WordPress site must allow you to install and activate plugins.
- Each user signs in with their own PhotoShelter credentials, so the content they can access is based on their existing PhotoShelter permissions.

Why teams choose PhotoShelter
PhotoShelter gives teams one place to organize, find, and control access to their visual content. Search, metadata, permissions, and AI help people find the right asset without knowing its folder or file name.
Teams can use the same library for websites, social posts, campaigns, presentations, and press materials.
WordPress DAM integration FAQs
Does PhotoShelter integrate with WordPress?
Yes. PhotoShelter offers a WordPress plugin that connects your PhotoShelter for Brands library with WordPress, allowing users to access and use visual assets while working in WordPress.
How do I connect PhotoShelter to my WordPress site?
Install and activate the PhotoShelter plugin in WordPress, enter your organization’s PhotoShelter Portal URL, and sign in with your PhotoShelter credentials. Your existing PhotoShelter permissions determine which content you can access.
Do assets get saved to the WordPress Media Library or linked from PhotoShelter?
PhotoShelter supports both options. You can import an image into the WordPress Media Library, where it’s hosted by WordPress, or use an embed link to display an image hosted by PhotoShelter.
Does image metadata and alt text transfer from PhotoShelter to WordPress?
Metadata is imported with images you bring into the WordPress Media Library. When adding an image to a page or post, you can also add alt text and a caption in WordPress without changing the original asset in PhotoShelter.
Can I choose web-optimized image sizes for faster page loading?
You can choose from available image sizes before importing a PhotoShelter asset into the WordPress Media Library. This lets you select a size appropriate for where the image will appear on your site.
Does the integration keep images updated to the latest approved version?
Not automatically. PhotoShelter supports Image File Versioning and lets teams choose which version of an image is active. If a new version is activated in PhotoShelter, you need to import that version into WordPress to replace the one already being used.
